Once you have made the decision to learn to fly, we will schedule you for a one-and-a-half hour lesson with one of our FAA certified flight instructors. Your instructor will also recommend several books to help you prepare for your FAA written exam. Most students schedule about one lesson per week. Every lesson averages three flights, although you may fly more, or less, depending on lift conditions are where you are in the learning process. The cost of each lesson depends on the number and length of your flights.

When your instructor has determined that you are ready, usually after ten or twelve flight hours, he will send you up on your first solo flight. After your first solo, you will continue to build flight time, transitioning to new gliders, and fine-tuning your flying skills. When you have logged two hours of solo flight, you will be eligible to take your FAA flight test and will receive a Private Pilot Certificate.

Although the cost of learning to fly varies from pilot to pilot, we have found that the average student will spend $400 per lesson, or about $4500 to solo. The FAA requires two solo hours and ten solo flights for a student to be eligible for a Private Pilot Certificate. The total cost up to a certification is about $8,000-$9,000. A pilot can add on a glider rating to an existing power certificate for about $4500. The FAA requires ten solo flights for a private rating and twenty solos for a commercial rating. The add-on meets the requirements for a flight review.
